This Privacy Policy explains how Binnacle AI (“we,” “us”) collects, uses, and protects information when you use BinnacleCrew (the “Service”). By using the Service, you agree to this Policy.

1. Information we collect

Account information — your email address, name or display name, and password (stored only as a salted hash).
Credential and career data you enter — credential types and numbers, issue/expiry dates, endorsements, sea-service entries (vessel, tonnage, route, position, dates), and NMC processing data.
Documents you upload — images of credentials or sea-service letters you choose to scan.
Study activity — quiz answers and progress used to power spaced repetition and weak-area analytics.
Payment information — handled by Stripe. We never receive or store your full card number.
Usage data — basic analytics (pages viewed, events such as starting checkout) via Google Analytics, with IP anonymization enabled.

2. How we use it

to provide credential tracking, study tools, and document features you request;
to extract fields from documents you upload (see “Third parties” below);
to send transactional messages such as renewal reminders and account notices;
to process payments and manage subscriptions;
to understand aggregate usage and improve the Service.

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use your uploaded documents to train AI models.

3. Third-party processors

We share data only with service providers needed to run the Service:

Stripe — payment processing.
Anthropic — AI document reading; images you submit for scanning are processed to return extracted fields and are not used to train models.
Resend — transactional email delivery.
Google Analytics — anonymized usage analytics.

4. Data retention

We keep your account and the data you enter for as long as your account is active. You can delete individual records (credentials, sea-service entries) at any time, and you can request deletion of your entire account. We may retain limited records as required for legal, tax, or fraud-prevention purposes.

5. Your choices and rights

You may access, correct, export, or delete your data from your account settings or by contacting us. Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under laws such as the GDPR or CCPA, including the right to access, delete, or restrict processing of your personal information. 6. Security

We use industry-standard measures to protect your data, including encryption in transit, hashed passwords, and access controls. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.

7. Children

The Service is intended for adults (18+) and is not directed to children. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13.

We may update this Policy; material changes are reflected by the “Last updated” date above.
