Radar Observer · Integration — AIS
Compared with radar tracking, AIS target information:
- AIs always more reliable than radar in every situation
- BProvides identity and reported course/speed but depends on the other ship's equipment and correct input✓ Correct
- CDetects targets that have no AIS
- DReplaces the need for a radar watch
Explanation
AIS gives a vessel's name, dimensions, and broadcast course/speed, but only for ships transmitting AIS, and the data can be wrong or absent. Radar detects all reflective targets. The two are complementary; neither alone replaces a proper lookout.
