The trial maneuver (or 'what-if') function lets the navigator input a proposed course and/or speed change and observe the resulting predicted CPA/TCPA values for all tracked targets before actually maneuvering. It is a decision-support tool; it does not transmit information to other vessels or control the steering gear.
