Tankerman · Static — Splash / Initial Loading Rate (Static Accumulators)

For a static-accumulator oil being loaded into a non-inerted tank, the initial loading rate is kept low until:

Explanation

Splash filling and high initial rates generate and accumulate static charge and mist in the tank. Loading begins slowly (commonly about 1 m/s linear velocity) until the inlet is well submerged, then the rate is increased. A 30-minute settling/relaxation period before gauging lets the charge dissipate.
