Tankerman · Cargo Properties — API Gravity
On the API gravity scale, a higher API number indicates an oil that is:
- ALighter (less dense)✓ Correct
- BHeavier and denser than water
- CMore viscous
- DHigher in sulfur
Explanation
API gravity is inversely related to density. A higher API number means a lighter, less dense oil; water is 10° API, so oils above 10 float. Heavy crudes have low API numbers.
