Rules of the Road · Inland-Specific Provisions

Under the Inland Rules, a vessel of less than 12 meters may anchor in a fairway in an emergency. What signal must she display?

Explanation

Inland Rule 30(e), like its COLREGS counterpart, exempts vessels under 7 meters from anchor light requirements when not in or near a narrow channel, fairway, or anchorage. Vessels 7-12 meters and above must still show the appropriate anchor lights per Rule 30.

Authority: Inland Rule 30(e)
