Rules of the Road · Sailing Vessels
A sailing vessel underway at night shall show:
- AA tricolor light at the masthead only
- BSidelights, a sternlight, and a white masthead light
- CSidelights and a sternlight only✓ Correct
- DSidelights, a sternlight, and two all-round lights (red over green) at the masthead
Explanation
Rule 25(a) requires a sailing vessel underway to show sidelights and a sternlight. Optionally under Rule 25(b), it may also carry two all-round lights (red over green) at the masthead. A sailing vessel may NOT show a masthead white light — that would suggest power.
Authority: 72 COLREGS Rule 25(a)
