Radar Observer · Performance — Minimum Range
The minimum range at which a radar can detect a target is determined mainly by:
- AThe range scale selected
- BThe antenna height
- CThe transmitted pulse length (and receiver recovery time) — the set cannot receive while still transmitting✓ Correct

Explanation
During transmission the receiver is blanked, so a target closer than roughly half the pulse length (plus the brief recovery time) cannot be seen. A short pulse therefore gives a smaller minimum range — important when picking up close buoys or vessels. IMO standards specify a minimum range performance (e.g., detection of a target at 40 m or less on the short pulse).
