Following a reportable marine casualty, the operator must notify the Coast Guard:

Explanation

46 CFR Part 4 requires immediate notification of a reportable marine casualty (death, serious injury, certain property damage, groundings, etc.) to the nearest Coast Guard Sector or MSU, followed by a written report on Form CG-2692 within five days. Drug/alcohol testing may also be required for a serious marine incident.
