Under 46 U.S. Code 2303, following a collision the master of each vessel must, so far as can be done without serious danger:
- ARender assistance to the other vessel and persons, and exchange vessel name, port, and ports of departure/destination✓ Correct
- BLeave the scene immediately
- CWait for a lawyer before doing anything
- DOnly report the collision the next business day
Explanation
After a collision each master must render practicable assistance to the other vessel, its crew, and passengers, and give the other vessel his vessel's name, home port, and the ports of departure and destination. Standing by and exchanging information are legal obligations.
