Compared to S-band (10 cm) radar, X-band (3 cm) radar generally provides:

Explanation

X-band (3 cm) radar offers finer bearing and range resolution due to its shorter wavelength and narrower beam, giving better target discrimination in congested waters. However, its shorter wavelength is attenuated more severely by rain. S-band (10 cm) radar penetrates precipitation better and has a longer usable range in heavy weather.
