Explanation
Rogue waves are abnormally large, steep waves (often defined as more than about twice the significant wave height) that arise unexpectedly from the constructive interference of wave trains, sometimes enhanced by currents. They can damage or overwhelm vessels with little warning, especially where wind opposes a strong current.
