Engineering · Compressed Air — Start Air
A non-return (check) valve and a flame/relief arrangement on the air-start manifold help prevent:
- ALow lube oil pressure
- BAn air-start line explosion caused by burning oil mist/back-flow of combustion✓ Correct
- CExcessive cooling water flow
- DFuel contamination
Explanation
Oil carried over from the compressor plus hot gas leaking past a starting valve can ignite in the air-start manifold. Bursting discs/flame arresters and proper drainage of oil/water from start-air receivers guard against such explosions.
